I had a pretty mixed weekend at the Moto3 Junior World Championship here at Catalunya.
In FP1 on Friday I highsided, causing a red flag which resulted in a hospital visit for me as I had come down hard on my head with an impact hard enough to split my helmet.
On Saturday I was back and given the OK for the two qualifying sessions. Unfortunately I was only able to manage a 33rd place start from the combined session times. Today’s morning warm-up felt better.
In Race 1 I got a good start and made it up to 19th by the first lap. Following a red flag and a restarted race of 10 laps I again managed to work my way through the pack finally crossing the line to take 15th position, collecting my first championship point!
We made the decision not to compete in Race 2 today as my head was sore and given the level of concentration required to compete at this level for full race distance I didn’t feel that I would be able to race at 100{5a43dc3882c2f80676fbef8b5ee99bfa10c7f8dfb70fbf5aca9b0d3e05947ab5}.
I’m happy with how Race 1 went and am now focusing on getting back to 100{5a43dc3882c2f80676fbef8b5ee99bfa10c7f8dfb70fbf5aca9b0d3e05947ab5} fit for the next round of the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup in Assen in two weeks time.
A big thank you to all the marshalls, medics and staff at the CEV Motorcycle Championship for their help on Friday also a big thanks to my team for all their support throughout this weekend and to my RSF teammate John Mcphee for his help and support. It was great to have a team mate to work with and most importantly a great big thanks to Arai Helmets Europe for giving me a helmet that saved my head by absorbing all the impact, thank you!
